Materials Needed per person/group:
2 Liter bottle of Coke
8 Alka-Seltzer tablets
Before we perform this experiment we would tell the students what supplies we are going to give them and have them think about what is going to happen. Then, have them explain why they think that reaction is going to happen. Once they have done this, have them perform the experiment. Make sure you are outside when you perform this experiment because it is really messy. Once the experiment is done, and all the students have seen what happens, have them go back and see if they were right. Were their predictions correct or wrong. Have them then explain what happened during the eruption. Was it a chemical or physical reaction? What do they think caused the reaction?
